Milan take last-minute point from bottom team Salernitana, Reijnders no leadership role

AC Milan lost points to bottom team Salernitana in Serie A and narrowly escaped defeat. Substitute Luka Jovic equalized at the last minute: 2-2.

Milan, which is third in Italy due to the loss of points, is in danger of falling further behind in Italy’s championship race. Leaders Internazionale face Lecce on Saturday and number two Juventus visit Frosinone.

When Fikayo Tomori pressed the right button after fifteen minutes on the pinball machine, it looked like the guests from Milan had had an easy evening in Campania. Milan then took things a little too lightly and made it 1-1 before half-time. Argentinian Federico Fazio climbed high on a corner kick and headed hard home.

No starring role for Reijnders

Milan took the lead but goalkeeper Benoît Costil blocked Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s shot and at the other end Antonio Candreva surprised Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan after a counter attack into the near corner. Milan still had time but Costil rejected Jovic.

The Serbian found an opportunity at the last minute. The home team finished the match with 10 men due to Vincenzo Fiorillo receiving a late red card.

After his fine second Serie A goal against Monza last Sunday, Tijjani Reijnders did not play a leading role for Milan this time. The Dutch national player was in the starting 11 for the seventeenth time in seventeen official matches this season.
