Finn Russell and Marcus Smith collided on the touchline in a fiery moment during an epic Premier League encounter at The Rec on Saturday.

Russell’s Bath beat Harlequins 25-17 that day to take them top of the table at Christmas. However, there is a moment that is circulating on social media. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Bath led Queens by eight points. Trying to seal the score, the ball reached Russell, who launched a huge drop goal that hit the posts.

The rebound reached England star Smith, who sparked the Queens attack with a penalty before slotting past Tyrone Green down the right wing. The winger cut back to Russell, who scored a perfect 50:22 from the corner less than 15 seconds after missing a drop goal.

As the crowd at The Rec cheered Russell, Smith went towards the ball before the former Racing 92 midfielder appeared behind him to try and retrieve it.

Smith looked furious as he pressed the Scot hard. Smith’s teammate Sam Riley looked like he was going to take on Russell before the Scot walked away with a big smile on his face.

The TNT Sports commentary team took advantage of the tense moment. Alastair Aikin shouted: “Two dozen! Today we played one-on-one in every way.”

Ben Kay added: “Finn Russell wants the ball back, he wants to play and Marcus Smith won’t give it to him.”

The next tray would lead to a Myles Reid try to secure a bonus point for Bath.
