Detroit Pistons failed to win in the NBA for the 26th consecutive time. With a 126-115 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit tied the record for consecutive losses in a season, which it now shares with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers.
Cleveland and Philadelphia did this in the 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 seasons, respectively. The longest losing streak of all time belongs to Philadelphia, which lost its last ten games of the 2014/2015 season and the first eighteen games of the following season for a total of 28 consecutive games.
Detroit still led 77-75 midway through the third quarter, but the Pistons were unable to answer Brooklyn’s 20-6 run in the remaining six minutes of that quarter. The Pistons still won the fourth quarter, but by that point the damage was already done.
“So much disappointment”
Coach Monty Williams later tried to explain his team’s poor performance by saying, “We’ve had a few setbacks this season.” “But I don’t see it that way. It could be. Of course, everyone has a guilty conscience about this. This is human. Still, I am affected every day by my sons’ situation. Believe me, they don’t want to be a part of something like this. It’s a negative series. “No one wants this.”
Detroit Pistons are three-time NBA champions. Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls won the championship in 1989 and 1990 before beginning to dominate the NBA in the 1990s. A third title was added in 2005, but in the last fourteen seasons the club from the American auto industry town has only made it to the play-offs twice.
Detroit currently has 27 losses and just two wins. They can try to avoid a 27th straight home defeat against Brooklyn on Boxing Day.
Wembanyama injured by ball boy
In the absence of Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio suffered a hopeless defeat against the Dallas Mavericks, 144-119. The 19-year-old French super talent left the match shortly before the match with an ankle injury after stepping on the foot of a ball boy.
Wembanyama’s right ankle was taped and he wanted to play, but his coach Gregg Popovich set the first-year NBA pro aside as a precaution. The Frenchman had already missed two matches earlier this season due to a minor injury to the same ankle.
“If this was a playoff game, I would let him play,” Popovich said. “Victor was not happy with the decision, but we prefer to be careful with him.”
This was Spurs’ 24th defeat this season.
