Cyclist Van Anrooij is temporarily out of action due to rib injury

A rib injury will keep cyclocross rider Shirin van Anrooij out of action for now. He was injured during training last week but decided to race at the Christmas Cross in Gavere today. He had to leave due to injury.

The cyclist, who won the Cross in Gavere last year, says in a message on Instagram that he cannot take part in cyclocross for now. 21-year-old Van Anrooij came second in Mol and sixth in Antwerp in these passes on Saturday.

“Now it’s time to get it checked to make sure nothing is broken, which means you won’t be able to see me at the start of the next races.” This was definitely not the Christmas season I was hoping for,” Van Anrooij said.

The talented cyclocross rider impressively won the Dutch and European Junior Time Trial Championships in 2019 and took silver at the World Time Trial Championships in Yorkshire.

The 2019-20 season marked his first victory in elite cyclocross, held in Contern, Luxembourg. He earned his first World Cup victory at Hilvarenbeek in 2022, followed by victory at Gavere later in the season.
