Dutch team will play against Spain in Cadiz for Olympic ticket

Dutch football players travel to Cádiz for the decisive match for the Olympic ticket against world champions Spain. The Spanish Football Federation announced today that the two teams will face each other in the Nations League semi-final on February 23 at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.

The capacity of the stadium is 20,724 spectators. Spain doesn’t often play home games in the small port town of Andalusia, but that will be where this important match will be played in two months’ time.

National coach Andries Jonker had previously stated that he expected a tough match against the Spaniards. “The away game against Spain is the most unfavorable draw but also the toughest. “We are fighting to get into the final and get a ticket to the Olympics, and we are fully committed to that.”

In the other semi-final, France and Germany will face each other. Both teams finished the Nations League as group winners, as did the Dutch team and world champions Spain.

Typically, only the tournament’s finalists qualify for the next summer’s Olympics. However, since France has already guaranteed participation in the Paris Games as the host country, the second ticket will be transferred to number 3 if France reaches the final.

If the Netherlands loses to Spain and France reaches the final, the Netherlands will compete with Germany for third place and therefore the right to participate in the Olympics.

Whatever the result, the Netherlands will play either the Nations League final or the consolation final on their home soil on February 28.
