Cyclist Puck Pieterse won the penultimate Superprestige stage of the season in Diegem. The Dutch champion attacked early under artificial light and was 26 seconds ahead of compatriot Ceylin Alvarado, who struggled after a poor start.
Inge van der Heijden, also from the Netherlands, came third.
Alvarado had won three of the previous six crosses. The other three fell victim to world champion Fem van Empel, who beat Alvarado in the sprint at Zolder on Wednesday but came up short in Diegem.
Pieterse copied last year’s winning formula and took his second win of the season with his beautiful solo. On Tuesday, he won the World Cup race, another cyclocross racing series.
Again Dutch Annemarie Worst lost the lead in the general standings to Alvarado. The last Superprestigecross competition will take place in February.
The men’s match started in the evening.
