Sergio Canales can play for Rayados without penalties

Madrid’s controversial Administrative Court No. 4 ruled that the player’s appeal was rejected by Sérgio Canales against the sanction he received last season, while playing for Real Betis, saying that his exclusion against Cádiz from the championship had been considered by referee Antonio Mateus Lahoz.

The disciplinary bodies of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) punished Canales in March this year with 4 matches and a fine of 601 euros after he stated at the end of the match against Valladolid, on February 18, that former referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz deliberately dismissed him in the game against Valladolid. Cádiz played in October.

The ruling, to which EFE had access, assumes that the principles of typicality, guilt and presumption of innocence were violated by Canales, prompted by an error in the expression and interpretation of the player’s statements.

According to this decision, Canales can compete against the Rayados de Monterrey in Clausura 2024 without any sanction.

The player appealed to the regular court after his appeal was not granted and was given a precautionary suspension of his sentence, even though he had already played one of the sanctioned matches.

Canales stressed that his behavior towards referees on and off the field was always exemplary and that he showed them the utmost respect throughout my professional career.

It’s been that way since my debut in 2008 and now it’s the same in the Mexican Championship. That’s why I’m glad that justice has been done. My conscience has always been very clear because I know that I have not made any mistakes in dealing with the refereeing team. If I had, I would have apologized immediately.
