Dutch tennis players started the United Cup with a win over Norway

Dutch tennis players won their first match in the United Cup competition held in Australia. They defeated Norway 2-1 in the group stage of the mixed national team tournament.

In Sydney, Arantxa Rus came first and defeated Malene Helgo 7-6 (4), 6-1. The Russian was unable to maintain his lead in the first set, but was always on the right side of the score in the tiebreak.

In the second set, Monster’s (WTA-51) tennis star had to overcome a break point first to make a difference against the world number 539. Helgo fought in the final match but surrendered on match point five.

Doubly important

Tallon Greekpoor could not surprise Casper Ruud (ATP-11): 3-6, 4-6. The Dutch world number 23 (three break points in total) took the first break point, but did not break the Norwegian (who took seven points) and then gave up his serve. He couldn’t recover from another break in the second set.

Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof got the winning point in mixed doubles. In experienced doubles, Ulrikke defeated Eikeri/Ruud with sets of 7-6 (5), 7-5.

Schuurs/Koolhof survived a certain point in the first set, then overcame two deficits to defeat the Norwegians for the fourth time in the eleventh game and reduce the game to zero.
