Manchester United assistant manager Eric Ramsey is currently the favorite to become Swansea City’s new manager.
The 31-year-old, who also had a brief spell as assistant manager of Wales this year, began his career as a youth coach with SA1 before joining Shrewsbury Town and Chelsea’s academy. He moved to Old Trafford in 2021, working as stand-in manager to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before becoming an integral part of Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag’s coaching team.
Ramsey is now the clear favorite to sign the Swans, according to bookmakers, as their search for a new permanent manager looks set to end soon after weeks of searching. Alan Sheehan has been on the bench since Michael Duff was sacked on December 4 and the interim manager has managed two wins in six games in charge.
BetVictor now rates Ramsey at 2/5 to succeed Duff as the Swans’ next permanent boss, well ahead of Notts County boss Luke Williams, who is second favorite at 2/1.
The club had previously attempted to sign Spurs assistant manager Chris Davies, but their failure to do so led to a crisis in the search for a new manager, with several names linked to the role. Among them was Williams, with whom the club held preliminary negotiations, but nothing progressed further.
Despite the odds of him taking the reins, bookmakers still see Davies as a potential candidate as his 20/1 odds put him behind Sheehan, who is rated at 6/1 to land the full-time job . Former Rochdale manager Brian Barry Murphy, now at Manchester City, is priced at 25/1.
Although they are currently behind favorite Ramsey, the latest odds also include former Rangers manager Giovanni von Bronckhorst, former Southampton manager Nathan Jones and recently sacked Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, who, of course, managed Swansea between 2019 and 2021.
