Alan Sheehan insists Swansea City are close to completing their search for a new manager.

The Irishman took charge following the dismissal of his predecessor Michael Duff at the start of December and played his seventh game in charge on New Year’s Day when the Swans beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at Swansea Stadium.com.

It remains to be seen whether Sheehan will be back to full strength for this weekend’s FA Cup third round match against Morecambe, but he believes there could be a change this week.

“I’ve had conversations this week,” he said. “As I always say, there is a process to go through and I understand that a lot of people are interested in the vacancy, but finding the right person when you have 11 points in seven games, sometimes it may not be so hasty. .I understand the need for clarity for everyone. I would say it should be finished this week.

“I would say we are closer [to a conclusion]. I’m just trying to enjoy this victory. That’s a very good point. Victory over a top six team. It’s been a long time. This is progress. It’s not perfection. We can still improve in certain areas. But we have to respect the teams we play against. West Brom are a good team.

“Let’s just enjoy this victory during this difficult time.”

The new year also coincides with the opening of the January transfer window and Sheehan expects the club to be active regardless of who takes over.

“I think in January there will be players that leave and there will be players that come in,” he said. “To be a successful team, you need to be stronger on February 1st than on January 31st. This is a fact. All the successful clubs I’ve been a part of have always worked this way.

“We are committed to doing this and understanding where we need to strengthen ourselves. I think everyone can see where we need to improve, but it’s not a bad place when guys have given absolutely everything. They have been great and continue to do so. They were very good and deserve all the praise.

Swansea is a big football club. He is known for his style of football and we want to get back to that. “It’s a process, but I think the players will eventually accept it and everything will be fine.”

Asked if there would be money to spend, he added: “I would say there will be. I’m sure there will be hiring meetings. But I know there are goals.”

One player who has been linked with a move is Standard winger Romain Mandle, although Sheehan is not interested in knowing whether he is the player they are keeping an eye on.

“I think there’s a long list to go through,” he said when asked about the link. – I don’t know, to be honest.
