A sensational solo try from 18-year-old Ospreys defender Morgan Morse left the BBC’s ScrumV commentary team in an uproar.
The Ospreys were behind Cardiff at Brewery Field when Morse kicked the ball after the restart in the 22nd minute. Morse, a Wales under-20 international, beat Liam Belcher and Tinus de Beer with a sensational 45-metre attempt in conditions atrocious.
Former Ospreys coach Shaun Holley, who was part of the ScrumV commentary team, waxed lyrical about the explosive number 8. “There’s been a lot of talk about this young man around here and we can see why,” said Holley.
“One small step… the conditions are so bad. See this step and then the acceleration. The conditions imply that a slip has occurred, so momentum grabs you.
“It’s a brilliant effort from an 18-year-old No. 8.”
Former Welsh center Tom Shanklin, who was also one of the match commentators, was equally generous in his praise.
“It’s amazing,” Shanklin said enthusiastically. “You won’t see a better effort than that, maybe all season, starting from 8th place.”
Morse’s try helped the Ospreys overcome a 13-point half-time deficit to record a 27-21 bonus point victory at Bridgend.
