After Formula 1, football and many other sports, Red Bull is now focusing on cycling. The energy drink producer took over the German formation Bora-hansgrohe.
At the end of December, Red Bull acquired a 51 percent stake in the cycling team’s parent companies (RD pro Cycling GmbH & Co and RD Beteiligungs GmbH). The takeover is not yet official, as objections can be submitted to the German cartel office until January 26. For now, Bora does not want to react to the news in the German media.
It is not yet clear whether the team will change its name and what plans Red Bull has for the cycling team. Bora and Red Bull have been working together in talent hunting for a while.
Roglic
Bora has strengthened this winter with Primoz Roglic, who won the Giro d’Italia last year and has achieved the best finish in the Vuelta a España three times in his career. In addition to the Slovenian, Dutchman Danny van Poppel also competes in the team.
Red Bull is a major player in the world of sports sponsorship. Formula One world champion Max Verstappen races for the racing team of the energy drink maker, which also owns a second Formula One team, AlphaTauri.
In football, the company is the sponsor of the clubs RB Leipzig (Germany), Red Bull Salzburg (Austria), New York Red Bulls (USA) and Red Bull Bragantino (Brazil).
Red Bull also sponsors approximately 800 individual athletes in various sports. These often include extreme athletes as well as Dutchmen Kjeld Nuis (skating), Memphis Depay (football), Robbert Kemperman (hockey) and Jeffrey Herlings (motocross).
The company also sponsors leading international athletes such as motorcycle racer Marc Marquez, pole vaulter Armand Duplantis and rugby player Siya Kolisi. Cyclists Wout van Aert and Tom Pidcock have individual contracts with Red Bull.
