The Pan American Sports Organization, Panam Sports, confirmed through a statement issued on the afternoon of this Wednesday, January 3, the decision to move the venue of the 2027 Pan American Games to Barranquilla.
Panam’s executive committee made the decision “unanimously” due to “the countless violations of the current contract,” the statement said.
Panam Sports stated that during a meeting on October 19 in Santiago, Chile, “and after receiving an official letter from the Colombian authorities dated October 25”, Barranquilla requested an extension of the deadlines in order to fulfill the contract. The organization agreed to define December 30, 2023 and January 30, 2024 as the new dates.
“However, given the lack of response once the new deadline has passed, the Panam Sports Executive Committee made the unwavering decision on January 3, 2024 to withdraw the right to be the host city of the continental event in 2027.” , he adds.
