Caimanes de Barranquilla defeated the Vaqueros de Montería with all their punching arsenal 18-2 at the 18 de Junio Stadium, in the capital of Córdoba, to regain the lead in the final series of the Colombian Professional Championship 2-1.
The victory went to Víctor Vargas and the defeat went to Eduar López.
Vargas was impressive on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings, barely getting hit with 2 hits and a run scored, striking out 3 and walking 3.
On offense, Caimanes attacked early with a pair of rallies in the first two innings, of 6 and 7 runs, leaving the Monterians out of options.
The second inning saw the action that decided the game, when Deivi Muñoz hit a homerun with the bases loaded, providing plenty of consolation for the visitors.
From that moment on, the efficient assists from Kevin Escorcia, Dewin Pérez and Fanor Lorduy ensured that the home team could hardly score another goal.
Caimanes scored two more in the fifth, one in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
The Reptiles had a 21-hit offense, including 4 doubles and one home run.
For Caimanes, Deivi Muñoz was 7-5, with a homerun, 7 RBIs and one run scored.
Jair Camargo 3-for-3, with a double, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
Caimanes returns to action on Saturday at 7pm at the 18th Junio Stadium for the fourth match of the series.
