Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds won four Emmy Awards for Welcome to Wrexham on Sunday night and the pair gave a glowing acceptance speech.

The docu-series first aired in August 2021 and became an instant hit, and the show is currently in its second season. Now it has won awards for best unstructured reality show, direction, editing and photography.

The Welsh club has gained a strong following in the United States since McElhenney and Reynolds became involved, sparking huge interest in the club. All of this contributed to the success of the show.

Since their association with the North Wales club, the Hollywood duo have pushed the club back into the Football League after 15 years out of the system.

The couple was not present at the Emmys, so they gave viewers a recorded message of thanks.

McElhenney began, “Wow! Emmy. What an incredible honor. There are so many people to thank, I’ve been waiting for this moment for 16 years, so I have a lot to say. I would like to start by thanking you…”

It’s at this point that the footage shows Reynolds putting on the iconic Deadpool mask while wearing the costume and holding Emmy.

“Wow!” -Reynolds began-. “Mr. Lively (referring to being Blake Lively’s husband) couldn’t be here to accept this broken Emmy, so he sent it to me on his behalf. First of all, Wrexham, we love you.

“Thanks for letting Rob and the other guy tell their story. Kimru are bitches.

“I would also like to thank the Academy for this honor and for not inviting us to watch a televised awards show with real celebrities.

“I would also like to thank FX and Disney for their support, and in return, Mr. Lively promises not to ruin my next film. Finally, “Oscar”. You know that, moms ********* *lol. Maybe we’ll get a token visual effects nod next year. The amount of work on Hugh and Ryan’s faces is at least noteworthy.

“Welcome to Wrexham. All episodes are now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.”
