The finalists of the men’s draw at the Australian Open have been announced

The first semi-final at the Australian Open will be between the Serbian Novak Djokovic (1) and the young Italian Jannik Sinner (4), while in the second semi-final the Russian Daniil Medvedev (3) will face the German Alexander Zverev (6) .

For another year, the 36-year-old Balkan reaches the prelude to the final as the main contender for the crown, primarily because of his love affair with the slopes of Melbourne Park, where he has won the title ten times, but also because he rediscovered the good feelings in his last two matches, against the French Adrian Mannarino and the American Taylor Fritz (13).

However, the champion of 24 majors will experience an event with an early final after one of today’s most dangerous tennis players fell to his side of the draw.

Jannik Sinner ended the season in the best possible way by winning the Davis Cup title with Italy after beating Djokovic in the semi-finals, and has become the only Australian Open tennis player not to have lost a set since the start of the season .

His only task, after making the jump to the noble zone of the ATP classification, was to perform in the most demanding scenarios, but his two victories against the Serbian in the last part of the season, in the Davis Cup and the ATP Finals, encouraged him to aim for a Grand Slam crown.

The Serbian has a favorable head-to-head matchup against the transalpine (4-2), although Sinner has won two of the last three fights.

The match starts on Thursday at 10:30 PM, Colombian time, and will be played at Rod Laver Arena.

Djokovic could equal local Ken Rosewall as the tennis player with the most appearances in a Grand Slam final after turning 35. She could also equal American Serena Williams with 367 victories in slam competitions, and move closer to the player with the highest number of victories, Swiss Roger Federer, who has 369 to his name.

On the other side of the four, Medvedev and Zverev meet for the first time in a major competition despite having met 18 times.

The Russian has a favorable head-to-head score of 11-7 and has been infallible against the German of late, having won five of the six meetings they had in 2023.

Both tennis players will need a great serve and take more risks than necessary to avoid straining their bodies from the two five-set matches they had in previous rounds.

The Muscovite scored the victory in the final round against the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (9), while the German did the same against the Slovak from the previous round Lukas Klein and the British Cameron Norrie (19).

Medvedev could clinch the ticket for what would be his third Australian Open final and Zverev could become the third German, behind compatriots Boris Becker and Rainer Schüttler, to reach the final on the banks of the Yarra River.

The second men’s semi-final is scheduled for next Friday at 3:30 am (Colombian time).
