Guadalajara appointed Spaniard Oscar Garcia as head coach

Guadalajara on Monday appointed Spaniard Oscar Garcia as technical director of the Clausura tournament, which begins in January, and the Concacaf Champions Cup.

The 51-year-old Spanish strategist arrives at Chivas Guadalajara two weeks after the sacking of Arturo Ortega.

“Oscar García Junyent will be the new coach of Chivas for the final tournament of 2025 and the Concacaf Champions Cup. Through the methodology and playing model that he usually develops, the Spanish coach will strive to ensure that the Holy Flock can become the protagonist of their matches through possession of the ball,” the club said in a statement.

“We are confident that Oscar Garcia’s experience, preparation and management of the group will be the key to Chivas’ success next semester,” he added.

Garcia will be making his first experience in charge of a Mexican club after leading several European teams.

In France he managed Reims and Saint-Etienne, in England – Watford and Brighton. He was also a strategist for Oud-Herlr Leuven in Belgium, Celta de Vigo in Spain, Olympiacos in Greece, Salzburg in Austria and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel.

He won four titles with Salzburg and one with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

“Every team, every country I have coached in has given me the opportunity to experience many aspects of this fantastic sport. I believe in the versatility of football and strategy, I want my teams to be active and active to control the game, my goal is always the same: to win,” Garcia said in a video posted on the club’s social networks.
