Dutch tennis players played a draw with the US, England and Kazakhstan in the Davis Cup final. The group stages will be played in Glasgow, Scotland, from September 14-18.
The Netherlands reached the final by beating Canada 4-0 in The Hague at the beginning of March. The team of national coach Paul Haarhuis took fourth and last place in the draw.
Haarhuis: “It’s a very strong group, but they don’t have players from the top 10 in the world. “The United States and Britain are stronger than us on paper, but Kazakhstan is slightly less in principle,” he said.
In 2019, the Davis Cup format was changed with the start of the group stage. It was also the only year that the Netherlands reached the group stage. In Madrid, he later lost to Great Britain and Kazakhstan. In 2020, the Orange lost again to Kazakhstan to advance to the group stage in the play-offs.
Nadal vs Djokovic
The draw resulted in a rather interesting clash between Spain and Serbia in Group B. Top players Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are likely to face each other. This group, which includes Canada and South Korea, is played in Valencia. Italian Bologna and German Hamburg are the host cities of the other two groups.
The top two countries in each group qualify for the qualifying phase. It will be held in Malaga, Spain at the end of November.
