Van Bronckhorst believes in Rangers’ last chance: “But it’s not over”

Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst thinks he has a good chance of reaching the Europa League final with Rangers FC. The Scottish superpower will play its first semifinal against Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on Thursday.

“Of course we believe in our last chance,” said Van Bronckhorst at a press conference on Wednesday. said. “We are still in Europe and we have performed very well in this competition. But we still have to perform. What we’ve done in the past doesn’t count.”

Rangers FC is under Van Bronckhorst working on an impressive series in the Europa League. The Scots eliminated Borussia Dortmund, Red Star and Braga in their second European club tournament in a row.

This allowed Rangers to reach the final of a European tournament for the first time since 2008. The club from Glasgow then lost the final battle 0-2 to FC Zenit. The last European prize was won in 1972: the European Cup II.

There will be a minimum of 8,000 Rangers supporters in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Thursday (from 9 p.m.). The return is next Thursday at the Ibrox stadium in Glasgow.

“We have to go to a higher level”

Van Bronckhorst gets his chest wet for RB Leipzig. “It is a very strong and attacking team. They have a lot of speed ahead and the team is very well organised. It is the semi-finals of the Europa League, so the level required is high. We have to be well prepared.”

RB Leipzig’s Willi Orbán recently said the team is tired physically and mentally. Van Bronckhorst says he cannot do much with these statements. “We focus on our own game. We have also played many matches in recent weeks that have added a lot to the team mentally and physically. But everyone who is still active in Europe is affected.”

Van Bronckhorst, 47, has been the coach of Rangers FC since November last year. Despite successes in Europe, the Dutch player also suffered a setback at the club, where he played actively from 1998 to 2001.

In the Scottish title fight, they have lost to rivals Celtic twice, meaning they are six points behind the leaders. At the expense of his compatriot, Rangers reached the final of the Scottish Cup. Hearts will face each other on May 21, three days after the Europa League final.
