Princess Alexia will be in Maastricht on Wednesday to celebrate King’s Day, the Government Information Service (RVD) informs NU.nl. The second daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima left for Wales in August 2021, where she will complete her secondary education.
It was not yet certain that Alexia (16) would temporarily interrupt her stay at Atlantic United World College to join her family on King’s Day. Schools in Wales are now on holiday.
Alexia obtains her International Baccalaureate (equivalent to a pre-university diploma) in Wales and completes the last two years of secondary school there. The sixteen-year-old princess follows in her father’s footsteps. King Willem-Alexander attended Atlantic College from 1983 to 1985 and is now the principal of the school.
At school, Alexia learns to investigate and think critically. He also takes courses in the field of science. Crown Princess Leonor (16) of Spain also attends school in Wales.
King’s Day is celebrated on Wednesday in Maastricht. King’s Day celebrated in the city and the public since 2019.
Correction: An earlier version of this message stated that schools in the Netherlands do not have a holiday either. This is not entirely true: it differs from school to school (and on King’s Day all students already have a day off). That’s why the message has been changed.
