The third South American Youth Games, to be held in Rosario, Argentina, will begin this Thursday and the Colombia Mission has already been installed in the city of Santa Fe to face the jousts that will take place in the Parque Único Suramericano, with 26 different disciplines .
About 2500 athletes from 15 countries meet on Argentine soil to participate in this competition for young people between 14 and 17 years. Colombia, which wants to play a good role, will participate in 24 sports with 194 young people.
Before the start of the competitions, the head of the mission, Jorge Franco, met with about 100 members of the mission, including athletes, coaches, delegates and officials to relay details of the Colombia team in Argentina.
“It is very important for the whole sports nation to have you here in Argentina, as ambassadors for Colombians at such important Games. We want them to speak well about our country, from sport to people, with good behavior and discipline,” Jorge Franco said at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by athletes and delegates from sports such as archery, figure skating, basketball, table tennis, tennis, gymnastics and wrestling, who will be the first to be active this week.
The first athlete to be active is tennis player Camilo Cano, who will make his singles debut this Thursday from 12 noon in Argentina, 10 a.m. in Colombia, against Brazilian Joao Schiessl.
Atlantic wants to shine
In Colombia’s mission to play a good part in these fairs, Atlántico will be represented by five athletes, who want to win medals and uphold the name of the department.
Angueline Miranda (artistic gymnastics), Leonard Bermúdez (Boxing), Joseph Villar and Anderson De la Rosa (beach handball) and Diego Rojas and María Ángel Charris (rugby) are the athletes who will participate in the competitions.
In addition to them, the coaches Miguel Guzmán (boxing), Roberto Bruno (indoor football) and Soledad’s judge Gustavo Castro are the other Atlantic quotas in the match.
