“Half the work is done”: Jürgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopptechnician of Liverpoolpraised his team’s match against Villarreal in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions Leaguemade a point of common sense despite the result and said only half the work is done.

“We had to play the second half just like the first half, without losing concentration, with intensity. With the effort to lose a ball and get it right back and we did that. We played a very good game,” explained the German coach at a press conference.

“It’s 2-0 and half the work is done. The environment they’re going to present there will be very complicated. They’re going to fight with everything they have. I can’t respect them anymore. The way they’ve approached the game today. It was very good. They taught us a lesson,” he added.

The German coach was reminded of the 2018 semi-finals when they comfortably beat Roma, but denied they could be trusted.

“We did not go to Rome thinking that we had already done it and that we had succeeded. That team had just eliminated Barcelona. We did not think for a second about that game,” said Klopp.

On the key to the game against Villarreal, Klopp pointed out that they need to score goals because against teams under such pressure, “if they manage to get out, they could pose a real threat.” “Almost all the time we defended very well,” he added.
