Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from participating in the prestigious American masters tournaments of Indian Wells and Miami. The Serb said on his Twitter account that he has already taken into account that he will not enter the US because there is no vaccine. It happened to him earlier this year at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
As if nothing had happened, Djokovic’s name appeared in the draw of Indian Wells, also known as the fifth Grand Slam tournament, on Tuesday. He seemed to have foreseen disaster.
“I knew I wouldn’t be able to travel,” Djoko said. The CDC (American version of RIVM, editor’s note) said the current rules don’t change, so I don’t play in the United States.” †
Current CDC health regulations require foreigners entering the United States by air to present a full vaccination certificate and negative test result.
Flight route through Mexico
Crossing the US border by land is a different story, as there are no restrictions on unvaccinated foreigners. There had been speculation for some time that Djokovic wanted to enter Southern California, where Indian Wells is located, via Mexico. Not really an option for Djokovic.
