Van Vleuten broke his ankle during training in the countryside

After Van Vleuten’s successful spring, when he added the first (Omloop Het Nieuwsblad) and last (Liège-Bastogne-Liège) major race to his roster, Van Vleuten would finally have time to slow down. Or, as Van Vleuten himself often describes: “hold the lamps for a moment”.

“While we were looking forward to two super fun relaxing weeks at home, that plan fell through,” the website says. “Yesterday I was cycling with my former teammate Iris Slappendel. I fell very unlucky and put all my body weight on my wrist.”

bad luck

It is not the first time that Van Vleuten has disrupted his holiday plans. He broke his knee at the 2018 World Cup in Innsbruck and therefore stayed at home in his spare time.

Also last season their holiday was up in smoke when Paris-Roubaix had a serious accident in the last race of the season. Van Vleuten broke his pelvis and shoulder, but recovered in time for the new season.
