FC Utrecht records first victory under manager Kruys

Utrecht has moved up to sixth place due to the win and will almost certainly make the play-offs. NEC lost for the third time in a row and remained tenth. The eighth place, which also gave them the right to qualify for the play-offs, disappears from the eyes of the Nijmegen.

FC Utrecht, where Estonian Rocco Robert Shein made his debut, was the better team before half-time and got the first chance with Douvikas in the 2nd minute. The striker headed wide from the corner. Minutes later, Douvikas sent the ball into the hands of NEC goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst. Upcoming winger Djevencio van der Kust also had a great chance. After half an hour of play, he hit the target very softly.

NEC was only heard shortly before half-time. The home side also had the upper hand in the second half, but Jonathan Okita made a wide angle for NEC in the 64th minute.

After a draw with RKC Waalwijk (1-1) and Fortuna Sittard (1-1) and a defeat at Feyenoord (2-1), Kruys could no longer find the connection with Utrecht. In the 77th minute, Douvikas brought the victory to Utrecht with a corner in the second minute. Okita was close to equalizing in stoppage time with a header. Goalkeeper Fabian de Keijzer came forward.
