RKC downplays relegation concerns against Groningen with colorful shirts

RKC Waalwijk played in special uniforms for the event. She decorated a shirt with colorful hearts, butterflies and a rainbow for Villa Pardoes (a holiday home for seriously ill children). The shirts were then signed and auctioned.

The shirts fueled the good energy in RKC. Fifteen minutes later, the team had taken the lead, but only thanks to the clumsy defense of FC Groningen’s Damil Dankerlui. A pass back to goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh was too short, Finn Stokkers gratefully took advantage (1-0).

Less than ten minutes later he was hit again for the RKC. Defender Bart van Hintum van Groningen completely misjudged a long ball, after which an unrelated Michiel Kramer had to hand the ball over to Stokkers. He passed Leeuwenburgh for the second time.

It took early for Danny Buijs’s team to get things right. Number eight of the league had not been beaten four times in a row for Buijs’s match, the last time being no less than six years ago.
