PSV follows in Ajax’s footsteps after goal-rich victory over Willem II

PSV did not lose any points in Ajax’s hunt against low-flying Willem II. The team from Eindhoven won 4-2 and trailed the team from Amsterdam by four points.

Coach Roger Schmidt had a puzzle to solve, mainly due to the absence of defender André Ramalho, Armando Obispo and the long-term injured Olivier Boscagli. The German therefore appointed midfielder Erick Gutiérrez next to Jordan Teze.

While Mario Götze was also absent due to illness, a crushed PSV appeared at the kick-off. But Willem II had personnel problems, including the ailing Freek Heerkens.

So there was no excuse to win the trophy and it turned out to be useless in the end. After Ritsu Doan’s quick opening, with the offside situation surrounding Vinicius approaching, Cody Gakpo doubled the lead after just over half an hour into the post. This time it was Mauro Júnior who announced.
