Orange women against Portugal at European Championship due to suspension UEFA Russia

Because UEFA continues the suspension of the Russian Football Association, the Orange Women will play the European Football Championship in England in the group stage against Portugal next summer instead of Russia. Portugal was eliminated in the play-offs by Russia and can now participate. Russian teams are also not allowed to participate in the European men’s and women’s tournaments next season.

Russian teams are also not allowed to participate in the Nations League, the European Under-21 Championship, the Women’s World Cup qualifiers and all youth and futsal tournaments. The Russian European Championship bid for 2028 or 2032 has also been stopped by UEFA.

Earlier this year, UEFA suspended the Russian Federation over its invasion of Ukraine. Russia invaded the neighboring country on February 24 and is still occupying parts of the east of the country.

Belarus, an ally of Russia, has not been disclosed. UEFA decided in February that Belarus must play all its home games at a neutral venue. The Orange women refused to compete against Belarus for World Cup qualifiers at the beginning of April because of the war in Ukraine.
