Marseille must finish the season without Payet’s injury

Olympique de Marseille should end the season without Dimitri Payet. The number 10 of France was injured on Thursday after a half-hour game against Feyenoord in the semifinals of the Conference League. Payet announced on Instagram that he will no longer be able to play football in the coming weeks.

“The disappointment is great, the pain is intense, but all your messages of support give me the strength to look to the future,” Payet wrote in a message to fans. “Next season starts tomorrow for me.”

After Payet’s withdrawal, Marseille managed to create a few more chances against Feyenoord in their Stade Vélodrome. Yildiz saw from the bench how his teammates did not score (0-0). Feyenoord is through to the final of the Conference League after a 3-2 victory over De Kuip.

Three more league matches are scheduled for Olympique de Marseille. Coach Jorge Sampaoli’s side hopes to get tickets to the Champions League. Marseille is in second place and AS Monaco has one more game to play. Paris Saint-Germain already has confidence in the Champions League as champions, number 2 in Ligue 1 deserves that too. The team that finished third advanced to the preliminary round of the Champions League. Payet is Marseille’s top scorer in the league with twelve goals.
