In 2016, Klok had never heard of Makassar, a large city on the island of Sulawesi. He was surprised that there is football in Indonesia, as his manager explained to him.
However, PSM Makassar on the middle table of the Indonesian Liga Satu showed interest in him. Klok knew little about Indonesia, but did know that the sun could shine there. And after two failed seasons in the Scottish Dundee FC shower, that alone was a significant improvement.
Six years later, as one of the biggest football stars in the country with at least a million followers on Instagram, he could not have imagined making his debut in the Olympic team.

The day after his debut for the national team, Klok tells about his first steps in Indonesia. “It took some getting used to. Makassar is neither a tourist destination nor a western city. Still, it was good for me to start there. I got to know Indonesia through and through.”
In his youth, Klok played in a talented team at Zeeburgia in Amsterdam with players such as Adam Maher and Danzell Gravenberch. FC Utrecht arrived at the age of twelve when he completed his training as a promising midfielder.
But Jong FC stayed in Utrecht. It was not as smooth as before. Moved to Ross County, Scotland in 2014. He played briefly with Cherno More in Bulgaria and then traveled to Dundee via England’s Oldham Athletic.
Exciting foreign adventures at first glance, but real football happiness was not found in England. Half-empty stadiums, reserve towers and critical media. The pleasure was different.
