De Graafschap and FC Eindhoven started the draw for the play-offs for promotion in the Eredivisie on Monday. The match in the first round in Doetinchem ended in 1-1. Both teams scored from the penalty spot.
Sanctions got out of hand in both De Graafschap and Eindhoven. Eleven minutes later, Brabant took the first penalty when a cross from Joey Sleegers was picked up by Jeffry Fortes. Sleegers then hit the target 11 meters away.
It took fifteen minutes before de Graafschap equalized. This time, referee Alex Bos awarded a penalty after Fortes hit the ball from the side of Jort van der Sande’s outstretched arm. Danzell Gravenberch made no mistakes on the field and worked his way in convincingly.
Bos didn’t get a chance to get the VAR under control during the penalty moments. The KNVB announced earlier today that it did not have enough cameras due to a misunderstanding with ESPN.
De Graafschap went for the winning goal in the last fifteen minutes, but failed to wave the side of ‘Superboeren’ coach Rob Penders.
The return between the two teams will take place in Eindhoven on Friday.
Joey Sleegers gave FC Eindhoven the lead from the penalty spot.
