Liverpool recorded an important Premier League win on Tuesday. Manager Jürgen Klopp’s team narrowly won 1-2 against Aston Villa in Birmingham, giving Manchester City a point equality.
City, who may face Liverpool again on Wednesday when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers, still enjoy a slightly better goal difference than ‘The Reds’. After Wednesday’s games, there are two more rounds in the Premier League.
Liverpool trailed in Birmingham with a goal from Douglas Luiz in the fourth minute. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker first made a good save from a header from the Brazilian, but was unable to react to rebounds.
Barely two minutes after the opening, he was already right in Villapark. A cross from Virgil van Dijk to Joël Matip ended with the hand of Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who was able to work from close range.
Mané won the game with a nice header
Halfway through the second half, Sadio Mané won the match. Luis Díaz had an excellent shot against the Senegalese who put the situation at 1-2 with a nice header.
In the final phase, Villa had enough opportunities to equalize the score, but the visitors barely got up. That was mainly thanks to Alisson, who prevented the 2-2 fall with a series of excellent saves.
Thanks to the win, Liverpool can still hope for the so-called “four”. The “Reds” are in the FA Cup and Champions League final. Earlier this season, the League Cup has already been won.
