Suzuki wants to leave MotoGP after this season. Suzuki said on Thursday that the Japanese manufacturer is in talks with World Cup organizer Dorna about terminating the contract. This contract now runs until the end of 2026.
The Japanese want to leave the mainstream motorsport class because of the “current economic situation” and the need to develop new technologies.
Suzuki will therefore drastically reduce the budget of the sports car. “We need to focus on the major changes that the automotive world has faced in recent years.”
Suzuki left MotoGP at the end of 2011 but returned to the first class four years later. The Spaniards Joan Mir and Álex Rins are the men’s duo of the team this season.
At the World Cup, Rins is in fourth place, while Mir is in sixth place. Reigning world champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) leads the World Cup standings. The French driver will race at home this weekend at the Le Mans circuit.
