Alfred Schreuder is definitively the new Ajax coach: ‘Great opportunity’

With Club Brugge, Schreuder is still fighting for the prolongation of the national title. With the remaining two games, Club is three points behind the nearest striker Union.

Champion with Twente, also approved

During his football career, Schreuder played for Feyenoord, RKC, NAC, FC Twente and Vitesse. After his career, he started working as an assistant coach at Vitesse, moved to Twente and became national champion there in 2010 as assistant to Steve McClaren. He eventually managed to become head coach of the Tukkers, but after disappointing results in 2015, he was fired. †

A few months later, he appeared at Hoffenheim as an assistant to Julian Nagelsmann until he joined the Ajax roster in January 2018. A year and a half later, he took the opposite path to become the head coach of the Germans.

This adventure was cut short in June 2020 because Schreuder and Hoffenheim thought differently. Shortly afterwards, Ronald Koeman took him to Barcelona as an assistant.

After Koeman and Schreuder resigned in October 2021, the new Ajax coach appeared in Belgium where he did a good job in Bruges. With the approach of the Belgian championship and the previous good cooperation under Ten Hag, he ended up in Amsterdam again.
