The investigation that FIFA opened against former Colombian referees Óscar Julián Ruiz and Ímer Machado continues to give people something to talk about.
The decision was made by the entity that rules world football over the accusations made by some former referees of alleged “harassment and sexual abuse” by these two judges, who allegedly asked for these kinds of sexual acts in exchange for assistance to young people. people to position themselves in the world of Colombian arbitration.
Although the prosecutor’s office initially launched the investigation due to “lack of evidence”, this finding by FIFA has led to the names of Ruiz and Machado being questioned again, as it is not the first time that these acts have been pointed out to them. .
This Friday, the Colombian Football Federation released a statement explaining the situation of Machado, who currently serves as the Colombian Football Federation’s chief referee.
“With regard to the indications of alleged conduct of injury or threat to the freedom or sexual integrity of a third party by Mr Ímer Lemuel Machado Barrera, the Disciplinary Commission of the Colombian Football Federation, by order of August 12, 2020, has ex officio the preliminary investigation,” the FCF explained in a letter at the beginning.
“Based on the foregoing, the complainant was subpoenaed so that, if it were in his best interest, he would testify and provide evidence that would allow the disciplinary action to continue. Taking into account that the suspected interested party failed to appear and in accordance with the higher and other complementary standards, as well as the filing of the investigation by the Office of the Attorney General of the nation, the case was closed due to the procedural inability to continue with the investigation itself,” he added.
Ruiz and Machado were publicly identified as bullies and abusers in 2019 by former referees Harold Perilla, Javier Reina, Julián Mejía and Carlos Chávez.
“Machado bullied me, he called me out, he touched my tail, he touched my testicles. He tried to discredit my work because we were competitors. Today I have a criminal complaint. From Ímer I have thousands of such experiences and I have several witnesses,” Perilla said in 2019.
