The Caribbean Series continues to grow. The Caribbean tournament, where Colombia was crowned champions earlier this year, will have a historic participation of teams in the 2023 edition.
This was confirmed on Friday by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation in a virtual meeting, which provided details about how the event will be held in Caracas, Venezuela.
The fact to emphasize is that for the first time in all the years of our existence, there will be eight countries that will be able to participate in the competition. Juan Francisco Puello, commissioner of the Caribbean Baseball Confederation, announced that Cuba and Curaçao will be invited to this championship, surpassing the six countries that participated in the 2021 edition, which was held in the Dominican Republic and in which Caimanes de Barranquilla made history by winning it.
The other countries participating in this tournament are: Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico and Panama. Similarly, due to the number of novenas, it would no longer be played in just one stadium, but there would now be two courts where the games would be played.
Before this game, Colombia was asked by the Caribbean Baseball Confederation to clarify what was the official league that exists in the country, so as not to question its presence in the tournament, something that was timely answered and clarified by the Colombian Baseball Federation.
As for the players that Curaçao would bring to the Caribbean Series – they have no professional league in their country – the president of the Curaçao Baseball Federation, Jedrek Magdalena, announced that the Curaçao players who play in the Minor Leagues have confirmed their presence. as well as some others that are in the Major Leagues.
Yamil Benítez, president of the Confederation of Professional Baseball Players, said there is a possibility that Cuba and Curaçao could receive economic awards in the 2023 Caribbean Series if they win.
The edition of the Caribbean Series 2023, which takes place in Caracas, will start on February 2 and Colombia will try to hold on to the title.
