Dylan Groenewegen wins the fourth stage of the Tour of Hungary. The Bike-Exchange rider was well ahead of two-time QuickStep stage winner Fabio Jakobsen in the sprint of the peloton.
After three straight stages we now had to climb. After the last climb, however, everything fell into place and therefore victory was discussed for the fourth time in the sprint. Jakobsen took the lead, but Groenewegen timed better and won with a few bikes.
Groenewegen caused Jakobsen’s serious crash during the Tour of Poland in August 2020. It was the first time since the accident that they finished first and second in a direct duel for victory.
“A very important win for me”
“The legs felt great all week,” Groenewegen said after his win. “All in all, everything is fine. We have made our final plan. View more.”
Groenewegen put a finger to his mouth as he crossed the finish line and then pointed to his chest. “It was a very important win for me. It’s a tough season at the moment. First we had two wins with the sprint train, but then we had to deal with illness and accidents. Everything went well today. I’m so happy. happy with it .”
New Netherlands success
It is the fourth stage win in a row for a Dutchman in the Tour of Hungary. Olav Kooij won the first stage, after which the next two fell into Jakobsen’s hands. Kooij had to stop the Tour of Hungary after a heavy fall in the final kilometers of the second stage.
Despite his second place, Jakobsen keeps his leader’s jersey.
