Dutch track cyclists have won two silver medals on the second day of the Nations Cup competition in Milton, Canada. They went to Lonneke Uneken and Yoeri Havik. Veendam finished second in the scratch division, Havik won his medal in the knockout race.
Uneken, 22, moved up to second behind Italy’s Martina Fidanza. In the qualifying race he immediately finished on the podium. Havik (31) only had to tolerate the Belgian Jules Hesters in the qualifying race for the men. Laurine van Riessen is through to the quarterfinals of the women’s sprint. The eventual winner flew against Germany’s Emma Hinze.
On Thursday, the men’s sprinters had already won gold in the team sprint, while the women in that class were good for silver.
Nations Cup games in Canada last through Sunday. The third and final game will be played in Cali, Colombia in July.
