AS Roma lost valuable points in their battle for Serie A Europa League tickets on Saturday, while Feyenoord’s rivals failed to beat relegated Venezia 1-1 at home in the Conference League final.
Roma was chased into the Stadio Olimpico a minute later by a goal from David Okereke. The Nigerian went home after a pass from Mattia Aramu.
More than half an hour later, Venezia had to continue with ten, as Sofian Kıyine was shown a red card. The left-back was sent off after VAR intervened for the kicking of Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini.
With fifteen minutes to go, substitute Eldor Shomurodov scored the goal, which was balanced by a rebound. Deep into added time, VAR considered a possible penalty for Roma, but the ball failed to land. Rick Karsdorp came in at half time and finished ninety minutes at Ridgeciano Haps Venezia.
With the draw, Rome is in sixth place. With one game to go, coach José Mourinho’s team is one point ahead of number seven Fiorentina, who went to Sampdoria on Monday. In Serie A, numbers five and six go to the Europa League and number seven to the Conference League.
AS Roma will play the final of the Conference League against Feyenoord in the Albanian capital Tirana on Wednesday (May 25). The winner of the tournament will play in the Europa League next season.
