Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the final of a master tournament for the fifth time in his career. The Greek defeated Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals in Rome. Sunday rival Novak Djokovic is too strong for Casper Ruud.
Tsitsipas first faced Zverev, who won the Roma tournament in 2017 and reached the final in 2018. The German started to play more offensively in the half of the first set. Looking for more of the net, he took advantage of his first break at 3-3 and lovingly served the set.
Tsitsipas, who defeated Zverev on dirt in Monte Carlo this season but lost to the Germans in Madrid, kept his cool and continued to play better. He broke Zverev 1-0 in the second set and even twice in the third set.
Thousand wins ATP Djokovic
The defending champion Serb Djokovic defeated Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-3. Djokovic was able to qualify for a win over Ruud with Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who recorded a thousand or more victories at ATP level.
