Nyck de Vries will make his Formula 1 debut at Williams on Friday

It will not be his Formula 1 debut, but Nyck de Vries will drive his first laps in such a fast car during a Grand Prix weekend. The Mercedes Formula E driver will be involved in the first free practice session at Williams, which has close ties to De Vries’ employer ahead of Friday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

While every Formula 1 team has had to use a young driver at least twice this season in early testing, Williams also appears to be cautiously looking for a potential replacement who came under Nicholas Latifi. De Vries is a possible alternative, but it seems he will have a little better paper if Australian Oscar Piastri arrives as a substitute during the summer holidays.

De Vries, who was previously a test driver on the cars of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, will gain experience with a new Formula 1 car in Barcelona and could come in handy again if Hamilton or George Russell are on the current roster. .With the German team it cannot be used during a Grand Prix for some reason.

The 2019 Formula 2 world champion and Formula E champion De Vries will be driven on Friday in the car of Alex Albon. The first free practice starts at 2 p.m.
