Two days after Willem II’s relegation from the Eredivisie, the football club is already planning to return to the highest level as soon as possible. A new coach was appointed at Teun Jacobs, so the focus was clearly on our own training.
Jacobs, 38, spent nine years with the NEC youth academy and six years with the KNVB before becoming coach of Almere City FC.
“It has always motivated me to lead young athletes to the top,” Jacobs told the club channel Tilburgers. “I will discuss with the head of the youth academy how we want to ensure that our talents reach the first team better in the coming years. I feel a great responsibility for that.”
Jacobs is the successor of Joris Mathijsen, who, like coach Fred Grim, was forced to leave after the result was not available.
Coach Hofland wants to stay
Zeljko Petrovic managed to keep Willem II in the Eredivisie last season with a final sprint, while Kevin Hofland failed to do so this year. Hofland’s contract expires, but the Limburger is open to a longer stay despite the sporting setback.
