Barrancas breathes pride for Luis Díaz

In Barrancas there is a general feeling around footballer Luis Díaz and it is pride they feel every time Liverpool’s number 23 takes to the pitch to display all his talent.

For those interviewed by EL HERALDO, they are very happy with his rapid and surprising evolution, because he represents Colombia and especially this city in the south of La Guajira, where he took his first steps and scored his first goals.

“I’ve known him since he was a kid, we lived in the same area and I worked with his dad in the football training schools, where Lucho was, and I can say he showed an interest in the ball since he was a kid,” says Víctor ‘el Toro’ Medina, a former Unicosta y Millonarios striker, who is now the municipal sports coordinator.

Many children and young people have passed through his hands and he dares to say that Luis Díaz is “exceptional”.

“In just six years of career he has already belonged to the world football elite and that is something very big,” added Medina, recognizing that this is due to his sacrifice and discipline, the constant guidance of his father, Manuel Díaz, and the contribution of several technicians who polish that diamond.

“It never occurred to me that I would be in a Champions League final today,” he said, looking forward to next Saturday’s game between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The last time the coach spoke to Lucho was when he won his first title with the England team and he got the chance to express all the pride he feels for the great progress in his football career.
