Fernandez defeated Bencic at Roland Garros, Anisimova in the fourth round

Belinda Bencic was eliminated in the third round of Roland Garros. The Swiss, who was in fourteenth place in Paris and the tournament’s highest-placed player in the bottom half of the schedule, lost to Canadian Leylah Fernandez 5-7, 6-3, 5-7 to advance to number 17.

In the first set, Bencic failed to make it 5-4, but did win the second set. Fernandez struggled in the decider set. For example, the ball fell off the side of the net in the wrong direction and a deep ball from Bencic hit the back of the line.

19-year-old Fernandez, who lost second place at the 2021 US Open, reappeared before halftime, lost the lead again, but hit again 5-5.

Anisimova at Muchová .’s expense

Amanda Anisimova is also in the fourth round. The American, who advanced to the semifinals in the French doubles in 2019, lost the first set to Karolína Muchová, but saw the Czech drop out after an injury in the third set.

The first set was very exciting and lasted less than an hour and a half. The set win was seen by Anisimova in 27th, who came back three times from the break and took a 5-2 lead in the tiebreak. But it ended badly, partly due to a false shot and a falsely accurate drop.

Muchová broke his ankle 2-2 in the second set. Then he tried again, but on 7-6 (7), 2-6, 0-3 the Czech had to give up.

Cori Gauff, 18, has fired Kaia Kanepi for twice her age. The American (WTA-23), who reached the quarterfinals last year, defeated Estonia (WTA-46) 6-3, 6-4.
