Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti faces a unique milestone: his fifth Champions League final as head coach. The Italian is greeted by his own players as Liverpool’s game approaches.
“I consider myself very fortunate to be able to work with Ancelotti,” Marcelo said at Friday’s forward-looking press conference. “He knows very well how to deal with the players. We haven’t had any problems this season and that’s thanks to him. It calms us down and it gives us confidence.”
The 62-year-old Ancelotti dominated the La Liga this season with Real Madrid and crowned himself with his team as national champions with four rounds to go in the competition. He became the first manager to win league titles in all five major leagues (Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, Premier League and Serie A).
In addition, Ancelotti faces his fifth Champions League final, which has never been reached before. He currently shares the record with Miguel Muñoz, Marcello Lippi and Sir Alex Ferguson.
“The good dynamics within the team are entirely due to the coaching staff,” said Thibaut Courtois, together with Marcelo. “We can count on them to make the right decisions. Given that everyone is playing and where we are now, they give.”

Ancelotti previously lost the final to Liverpool
Ancelotti has won three of the previous four Champions League finals. He has already won the “Big Ears Cup” with Real Madrid (2014) and AC Milan (2003 and 2007). He lost his last fight with the Italian top club in 2005 on all points against Liverpool.
Hoping for another good memory in her fifth final, Ancelotti said: “I have fond memories of all those finals. “Ironically, losing the final to Liverpool may be the best performance of all my teams in the final,” he said.
“We had time to prepare well with the current roster and we will see tomorrow if that is enough. In football, things can happen that you have no control over.”
The final between Liverpool and Real Madrid starts on Saturday at 9 p.m. French referee Clément Turpin will lead the match at the Stade de France.
