The Boston Celtics are in the NBA Finals for the first time in 12 years. The team from Boston won the deciding game 96-100 in its seven-game series against the Miami Heat on Sunday-evening (local time).
Jimmy Butler was the FTX Arena’s most prolific player with 35 points, but it wasn’t enough to take the Miami Heat to the NBA Finals for the seventh time. He missed a three-point field goal in the closing stages. Jayson Tatum added 26 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the Celtics.
The Celtics will face the Golden State Warriors for the NBA Championship. The California lineup decided to engage in an arm wrestling match with the Dallas Mavericks last week to record their fourth best-of-seven victory (4-1).
The Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA titles and are the record holder with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the last championship was in 2008. Two years later, the team reached the final again, with the Lakers winning 4-3.
In the past five years, the Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals three times, but the Boston basketball players have not advanced to the NBA General Finals.
Thursday through Friday (Dutch time), the first game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals will be played.
