Disappointment after Wolff’s ‘no man’s land’ race: ‘Unacceptable for Mercedes’

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is dejected as Mercedes failed to approach Ferrari and Red Bull during Sunday’s race in Monaco. George Russell (fifth) and Lewis Hamilton (eighth) were far from the podium.

Mercedes had problems with backlash from cars in Monaco. Present It seemed to have been resolved at the Spanish Grand Prix a week ago. Russell finished third and Hamilton fifth.

“I think we are now the third team. We are not the second team and we are not the fourth team. We have two incredibly good drivers, but the difference is still the same, which is a big problem for all of us.”

“On the optimistic side, we are five tenths of a second slower than the top teams. But if you look pessimistic, eight out of ten. And it is clear to all of us that this is unacceptable for Mercedes.”

Wolff points out that Mercedes still has some homework to do. “I think we learn something at every track. Literally every mile we drive teaches us important lessons about how we can improve the car. But we need to get away from this place where nobody is as soon as possible.”

After 7 of the 22 races, Mercedes is in third place in Formula 1 on the manufacturers’ standings. The next race is in two weeks. Then the top class of motorsport descends to Azerbaijan.
