KNVB has independent public prosecutor investigate ‘pure guilt’ in ADO

The KNVB asks the independent public prosecutor to investigate the unrest at ADO The Hague on Sunday. The prosecutor opens a preliminary investigation to understand what happened before, during and after the match against Excelsior.

After ADO did not promote to the Eredivisie after penalties, things got out of hand in and around the stadium. Supporters of the home team then stormed the field and threw fireworks into the penalty area together with Excelsior supporters, among others. Riots also broke out outside the stadium. Four police officers were injured in the incidents.

The public prosecutor must investigate whether ADO The Hague can be prosecuted. If this is the case, the club of the Culinary Championship Division will be penalized. During ADO’s 3-0 lead, he threatened to escalate as dozens of fans left their seats and stopped along the boards to enter the field.

KNVB about riots in The Hague “A horrific way to end the season and casts a shadow over an exciting ending.” said. “This is complete abuse. It’s not the fans, it’s the people who hurt the club and football.”

ADO Den Haag went through the dust on Monday in a statement amid the unrest. “We are deeply ashamed of what happened yesterday,” said ADO. “We sincerely apologize to the fans who did not feel safe in and around the stadium, especially the Excelsior fans, players and staff. It is too embarrassing to put into words.”

ADO says ‘it is doing everything it can’ to find and punish the perpetrators. Entering the field is punishable by a national stadium ban of sixty months and a fine of 450 euros. “All camera images inside and outside the stadium are being viewed. We don’t want to take any precautions, but long-term stadium bans will also be part of the measures.”
