Coach Jos Luhukay leaves VVV-Venlo. The 58-year-old Limburg player extended his contract with the Keuken Kampioen Division club in January until the summer of 2023, but says goodbye after four months. “The interests of the club are paramount and I think it is time for me and the club to leave that to others,” said Luhukay.
De Venlose joined VVV in March last year as the successor to Hans de Koning who was fired. Luhukay has been given the task of keeping Venlo in the Eredivisie. At that time, VVV was in fifteenth place, just above the relegation line. Led by Luhukay, the VVV scored only 1 point and relegated directly from the Eredivisie.
Despite this, the club management decided to continue with Luhukay, who was successful in Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC in Germany. VVV failed to break through to tenth place in the culinary championship standings and missed its participation in the promotion play-offs of the Eredivisie.
“I got to know Jos as a real professional who always strives for the highest level with respect for the possibilities of the club,” said general manager Marco Bogers. “He has always considered the interests of the VVV and is doing so in this situation.”
