Coach Jos Luhukay will leave VVV-Venlo with immediate effect. De Limburger still had a contract for one year with the club of the Kitchen Champion Division, but after consultation with the club management came to the conclusion that it was better to say goodbye.
“Together with the Supervisory Board, we have had many discussions about professionalization in the technical context of club football. To the credit of clubman Jos Luhukay, it now gives others space to get more excited.” director Marco Bogers. †
Luhukay, 58, was appointed in March last year with the task of keeping the VVV in the Eredivisie. It didn’t work out – the Venlonians finished seventeenth and fell straight into the culinary championship division – but the seasoned coach was allowed to sit.
This season, VVV could not participate in the promotion. The club finished tenth and missed a spot in the play-offs. The difference with number nine De Graafschap was eight points. Luhukay’s contract was extended in January, but now the partnership is coming to an end after more than a year.
“I worked with a lot of dedication, passion and pleasure at ‘my’ VVV”, says Luhukay. “There are many challenges and opportunities to build something beautiful in the long term. The club’s interest comes first and I think it’s time for me and the club to leave that to others.”
Luhukay worked at VVV before his first job in the Netherlands. He worked mainly in Germany, in Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and Hertha BSC.
